Nick and Jane on Pigeon Island

Nick and Jane on Pigeon Island
This was our first big expedition. Pigeon Island is down the Glenorchy end of Lake Wakatipu in the South Island. A little shingle spit stretches out towards the mouth of the Greenstone River: just made for the tub. Although we ran the burner on gas, there is plenty of driftwood as an alternative fuel. We dropped the tub off the boat and floated it in to the shore.

It took three minutes for two of us with a bucket each to fill the tub.

The awkward positioning and hilarity arises from Nick trying to show the Emerson’s Brewery label on the beer bottle. Many thanks to Richard Emerson, the Dunedin brewer who recently swept the New Zealand awards. He donated two crates of his Pilsener lager (my favourite) for the expedition and we all appreciate it.
