Well, it IS remarkable
Near the top of the Remarkables mountain range in Central Otago. This 2,319m (7,608 feet) wall of schist peaks opposite Queenstown appears to rise almost vertically. It's foreshortening - the clearer air higher up makes the upper reaches seem closer.

For decades, Steve Bell from Cromwell has been organising scuba weekends once a year to dive under the ice on Lake Alta, near the top of the range. All credit to Steve - Occupational Health and Safety concerns have now made it just too iffy to continue, even though there's never been a problem.

But we have had some great tub outings!
