Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Sometimes you just hit it right. This was the big snow fall of June 2012, when the Canterbury high country farmers were cut off for three weeks. I was at Aotearoa / Mt Cook for a NZ Alpine Club midwinter party, with a Kiwitub. That's Chas and Katrina, the Unwin Hut wardens.
I fell in love with snowshoes. Perfect weather, and no vehicles because the road was cut. I borrowed a pair of snowshoes, stepped off the hut verandah onto the snow, and kept walking until I was up on the Tasman glacier. It was like flying.
