New Zealand Alpine Club climbing camp 2006
The camp this year was up the Rees River which flows into Lake Wakatipu. We got gale force winds, torrential rain, horizontal snow up Mt Alfred, and brilliant fine weather: the usual four seasons in a day.
We dropped a Kiwitub beside the creek, and also connected a burner to a plastic barrel, giving us 200L of hot washing water in 10 minutes. Another bucket with holes in it slung beneath a tripod of willow branches gave a three minute hot shower. Luxury!
That's Keith Moffat and Joanne Inder in the tub with a beer. Keith bears considerable responsibility for unleashing the Kiwitub on an unsuspecting bathing public. When I'd reached a point in the development where I could either go ahead and go commercial, or walk away and have a life for a bit, Keith grinned his usual cheerful grin and said, "What's the worst that can happen? The children will still get fed and we'll all have hot tubs for Christmas!" And the rest is history.
